McTimoney Adjustment

About McTimoney

Developed over fifty years ago by the late John McTimoney this technique is a whole body, gentle method of re-aligning the entire skeletal system.

The adjustments we use in achieving this are very specific and quick and there is generally little discomfort during or post-treatment. However, particularly after the first treatment, the profound mechanical changes that can occur in the body may cause some tiredness, aching and a difference in the type of discomfort experienced.  These are common reactions and we advise that clients refrain from exercise or vigorous activity for 24-48 hours post-treatment to allow the body to settle.

There are factors that can influence recovery, such as the duration of the condition, your general health and fitness together with your age; individual reactions are therefore hard to predict. In order to enhance the treatment and move forward with the healing process, we ask for the patient’s commitment to the Therapist’s advice and recommendations regarding aftercare and exercise.

Initially, we would expect to see a patient two to three times over a three week period, extending the intervals as the benefits of the treatments last longer. Ultimately, the aim is for one session every three months, for a year, until the patient is stabilised.  Even after that time, many patients have preventative ‘top-up’ treatments every few months for general health and maintenance of the body.  At every stage, we discuss improvements and changes with you so that together we can decide the best progression of your treatment.
