Charles Wright

McTimoney Practitioner

I graduated from the McTimoney School in 1990, and hence have been involved in the complementary medical field for over 30 years. Initially, I worked as a massage therapist, primarily with those in the performing arts. My introduction to the more alternative therapies of energetic work and healing, concluding in training at the Chiron Centre for Body Psychotherapy, have further influenced and enhanced the therapeutic nature of my treatments.

I now Practice a gentle style of body realignment using an amalgam of the above techniques, McTimoney manipulation, Intuitive Massage and Trauma Release.

About McTimoney

Developed over fifty years ago by the late John McTimoney this technique is a whole body, gentle method of re-aligning the entire skeletal system.

The adjustments we use in achieving this are very specific and quick and there is generally little discomfort during or post-treatment. However, particularly after the first treatment, the profound mechanical changes that can occur in the body may cause some tiredness, aching and a difference in the type of discomfort experienced.  These are common reactions and we advise that clients refrain from exercise or vigorous activity for 24-48 hours post-treatment to allow the body to settle.

There are factors that can influence recovery, such as the duration of the condition, your general health and fitness together with your age; individual reactions are therefore hard to predict. In order to enhance the treatment and move forward with the healing process, we ask for the patient’s commitment to the Therapist’s advice and recommendations regarding aftercare and exercise.

Initially, we would expect to see a patient two to three times over a three week period, extending the intervals as the benefits of the treatments last longer. Ultimately, the aim is for one session every three months, for a year, until the patient is stabilised.  Even after that time, many patients have preventative ‘top-up’ treatments every few months for general health and maintenance of the body.  At every stage, we discuss improvements and changes with you so that together we can decide the best progression of your treatment.

The Logo

Chiron, the wounded healer, was an immortal Greek god who has much to teach us about healing human frailties.  Twice wounded, firstly by the emotional trauma of his birth and subsequent abandonment by his parents, secondly by an unhealable, physical wound.

Cronus, Chiron’s father, changing himself into a stallion to hide from his wife Rhea, mounted the sea sprite, Philyra, and sired Chiron.  The child, conceived and born in great pain, was half man and half horse. His mother, thinking him monstrous, rejected and abandoned him. Fortunately, he was saved and raised by Apollo who taught him the healing arts, music, poetry, and prophesy, whilst Apollo’s sister, Artemis, taught him archery and hunting. He became much sort after as a teacher and mentor and had many students, one of whom was Asclepius, the god of medicine. In Greek, ‘kheir’ means ‘hand’, or ‘skilled with the hands’ and ‘kheir+ergon’, (surgeon), equates with ‘handworker’.

Centaurs were notorious for their violence and excessive lust, but not so Chiron who followed the enlightened path of his adoptive father.  Unfortunately, during a battle between the centaurs and Hercules, Chiron was caught up in the melee and was accidentally struck by one of Hercules arrows which had been tipped with the poison blood of a dead Hydra.

Chiron could not heal the poisoned wound which became unbearably painful, yet he continued to heal others. Being immortal, he could not even escape his pain in death. Finally, he bargained with Zeus exchanging his immortality for Prometheus’s freedom from eternal torture, imposed by Zeus for Prometheus having gifted fire to mankind. Chiron became mortal and was released from his agony by death.

Chiron is seen above holding a flame of fire, symbolizing transformation, and his sacrifice for Prometheus, the fire-giver, also the Caduceus, symbolizing the healing arts.

We are all wounded. How we choose to use, interpret, transform, or integrate our wounds depends on us. The metaphor of Chiron lights the way for those who choose to follow a path offering physical and emotional healing to mankind.

About Me

I started my working life in the as a Sound Engineer. Individuals whom I met through this profession generated my interest in massage and the healing arts leading to my training both as an Intuitive Massage Therapist and Healer.

I subsequently continued my training in the McTimoney Technique, a gentle form of whole body, skeletal realignment based on the philosophy and teachings of John McTimoney. Latterly, I studied both Biodynamic Massage and Body Centred Psychotherapy.

Following my McTimoney training I returned to the collage as a practical tutor and then progressed to running a student clinic in London.

My work now is a direct extension, and amalgam, of my other disciplines it’s intention being to facilitate the changes which clients wish to make in their lives.

Teaching and facilitating growth in others, both students and individuals, has always been my passion and now continues in my work with individuals and groups.

I am a full member of the Association for McTimoney Practitioners and fully insured through Holistic Insurance Services.

Testimonials

In my experience, one does not notice the importance of the shoulder joint in life; that is, not until one of them freezes! The main factor in my recovery was the caring and intuitive deep tissue treatment and body realignment I received from Charles. I have recovered full joint mobility and have monthly, full-body maintenance treatments to ensure my well-being. Thank you, Charles!

There is a sense of being in safe hands when receiving treatment from Charles Wright. My experience was of immediate relief of symptoms as well as healing at a deeper level. This was due to the multidimensional aspect of the treatment. It was gently relaxing, creating a feeling of working in unison, myself responding to touch and movement of the body. The treatment opens up a channel so that an energetic healing energy can be accessed. It left me not only free of symptoms but also closer to the cause.

S.W.

I spent many years suffering great pain as the result of a prolapsed disc in my lower back. After just one treatment I spent the following few days without pain. I have continued to see Charles monthly in order to maintain the alignments of my body and continue to enjoy a largely pain-free life. I cannot recommend Charles highly enough; he has made a tremendous difference to the quality of my life.
